Finally we have arrived in Genadendal. The trip was awful but it was definitely worth it. We have done an incredible amount of stuff and we still have a week to go.
We arrived Saturday afternoon and we were allowed to look around at out hostel. Sunday we went to a place called Cape Agulhas, which is (officialy) the most southern point of the African continent. We went to a lighthouse and had a beautiful day on the beach.
The next day we went to EW-Highschool which was weird and very boring so it was not very interesting.
Then on Tuesday we went to Capetown and we visited the townships, which was very impressive. In the morning we were guided by Rio, from Ajax Capetown. This was a lot of fun and I enjoyed seeing the happy children play a game of football. Then in the afternoon we went to one of the biggest townships of Capetown and we played a game of football against the children. It was very surprising to see them be very happy under those circumstances.
Then Wednesday we went to school again in the morning and in the afternoon we went to our buddies. he lived in a nearby village but we didn't stay for long. However I was shocked when I saw his house: damaged walls, a roof out of cheap materials, and a small couch. I didn't expect it at all. As I said, we didn't stay for long and we went to another place where we could swim and enjoy the sun, it was lovely.
Thursday we went to the Table Mountain and the weather was beautiful. It was nice and warm and the view was great. Then in the afternoon we went to the District 6 museum and we saw how an entire area got destroyed, only to become 'a white area'. It was shocking and I couldn't believe that this had happened here. However we couldn't stay in Capetown for long, since there were protests against the president and it was not safe. Then we headed to Waterfront, a beautiful shopping mall where we had a nice meal. Then we went home and played a game of cards, like we always do.
This was it for now. I just want to let you all know that it's going fine and I'm having the time of my life.

Greeting from Genadendal,

    Anne:

    Hi Hidde,

Woh, you did and saw a lot of things last week!!!!! Good to hear that you are having the time of your life in South-Africa.
We came back from Flachau yesterday and had a great time. We missed you with us!!!!! Next year? It was good to hear that you don't miss us because that means that you're having a wonderfull time.
Why was the EW-highschool weird and boring? Is it different from our schools here?
Today to Robben island? I'm curious about your experiences.

Goodbye for now and lots of fun the coming week.

    xxx mama
